Seeing these hills again makes me remember things I don't think I ever knew - recollections of dirt clods and whiskey and light over the plains, and Kansas purple storms pushing up over the horizon like a thrashing cloud of crows oil black, and lightning blue. Violent, beautiful, silent. Pushing up over the wheat like dark wind, collecting all light, advancing and hovering above me. Mountain of dark and light swelling above the flat gold of Kansas.
